I am not single, but I am in a long-distance relationship with my husband. We’ve been together for eleven years, married for three years. He lives in Washington DC, so I painted the flag of Washington DC and the symbol of Chengdu above it. I moved to Chengdu a year ago and he’s been in Washington DC for a year, so we’ve been apart for a year. Thankfully, he will be moving to Chengdu next month.

We’ve known each other for fourteen years. We met because we were touring the same college campus. We were pen-pals for many years and then we started dating. We actually started in a long-distance relationship. I was living in Seattle and he was living in Denver. We started long-distance, and now we’re long-distance again, so maybe a little long-distance is helpful.

The last time I was here I came to paint and drink, but I focused too much on the drink so this time I wanted to focus on the paint. Maybe this is why I am not in a relationship, because of wine.

I am the big gold-mustard spot in the middle, and all of the spots together represent all of the couples around me.

Everywhere I look, like on Facebook, all of my friends are getting married, engaged, and having babies.

They’re all painted in multi-colored dots to represent that I’m happy for my friends who are happy in relationships and moving on, but I’m also happy here living my best single life in China.

Sometimes in life you find yourself in situations where you can’t always be yourself or say what you feel.

Sometimes that causes the end of a relationship.

I am an introvert at heart, and this painting is called With Every Beat My Heart Is a Masochist.

People always have a stereotyped impression of women. Women are supposed to be beautiful, elegant and delicate. Some even think women wear make up because they want to please others. The society put chains and masks on women. And it's time for women to fight for themselves.

Feminism means choice. The true gender equality gives the same right to everyone regardless of gender. Many people feel sorry for women in Muslim World because they have to wear burqa. Some even think it's such a shame that women in Muslim world surrender to their religion culture. But it's their own choice. Nobody has the right to judge their choice.

I come from Liverpool and I miss my hometown very much so I drew this Liver bird as the symbol of Liverpool.

And the background is purple, deep red and orange because I think Liverpool is most beautiful in the night time.

There is a Chinese poem saying "The evening glow parallels with a lonely duck to fly.
The autumn river shares a scenic hue with the vast sky"
中国有一首诗是这样形容夜晚的:落霞与孤鹜齐飞,秋水共长天一色.

Night is all about dark blue sky and shinning stars.
And there could be nothing more romantic than relaxing on a lonely mountain with starry night.

I painted an orangutan from the jungles of Borneo because the topic of the evening is 'Things we have', but we have things because of the things we take.

We take a lot from the jungle and who suffers the most are sometimes our closest relatives - animals.

Don't forget about the jungle.

I really like a colour green, so I first painted the whole canvas green and then added some colours.

It resembles my life because I just finished my high school, took a gap year, now I am in collage and I just feel like my life now is expanding to every corner of the world.

I painted one of the cities we visited here in China, one of the streets in Jie Zi  街子.

I gained great experience in China I never thought I would learn so much here on a personal and on a cultural level.

I had a really nice time here in Chengdu.
